Our guiding principles

You’ve probably heard of “coaches” who pressure you into long-term contracts, promise unrealistic outcomes, and charge absurd fees.

Maybe you’ve even been burned by one before.

They give you just enough to keep you coming back for more – building dependency instead of your business.

At Lodestar, we do things differently or we don’t make a dollar.

At our core are these four guiding principles:

Reduce noise

Increase clarity

“Some people go an entire lifetime wondering if they ever made a difference, but the Marines don’t have that problem.”

It’s a nice sentiment. But as a guy who spent a decade and a half walking in those boots, I’ll be the first to tell you it’s not a universal truth.

As a Marine, I spent the better part of 15 years in a variety of roles – periodically picking up some active duty time around the U.S. and abroad.

Along the way I earned a bachelor’s degree in history with a minor in political science Later, I added an MS in management and leadership while working full time for a Cabinet Level Secretary in the U.S. Government.

Outside the Corps, I’ve led (and followed) in positions in healthcare, government communications, leadership development, and industrial production.

We’re a veteran owned and operated professional coaching service for small businesses and individuals.

Our name comes from an old word for a navigational star used to help guide ships at night, often the North Star — because a good sense of where you are is as important as knowing where you want to go.

My personal mission is to do good by helping others do well.

How it works

At Lodestar Coaching we follow a simple and powerful 5-step framework to bring you greater success in business and in life.* You stay at the helm, we help hold the compass.

1

Reduce noise – Using proprietary software and an International Coaching Federation trained methodology, we ask the right questions to clear the distracting clutter so you can work on your business instead of in your business.

2

Increase clarity – Once we’ve reduced the noise and identified areas for improvement, it’s time to deep dive and put together a detailed implementation plan. Clarity brings focus, focus brings results.

3

Build trust – We support you in implementing incremental changes that build success upon success and result in exponential growth over time. You’ll build trust in your team, your business, yourself, and your future success.

4

Save time – We’ll help you cement these changes into the very DNA of your business. When you do the routine things routinely you will better leverage your most precious resource, time. The results start to take care of themselves.

5

Continuously improve – You’re up and running, hitting your objectives, and doing routine things routinely using our core guiding principles – business is fun again. Now, it’s time to iterate with an eye towards optimizing. Maybe it’s even time to look for additional opportunities, like getting ready to franchise or sell to fund your next great adventure.

*Our framework works wonders for individuals, leaders, and executives, too. You don’t need to be an owner to bring exponential results to your life and your bottom line – whatever that may be.

The best thing about a business that’s running well is the freedom to turn it into productive play, to enjoy why you started in the first place, and the confidence to respond to the inevitable unforeseen challenges.

The sky is the limit. What are you waiting for?

The more personal stuff

If you’ve made it this far on the page, you might want to know a bit more about the guy behind Lodestar Coaching, who says he’s going to help you grow and change for the better. So here goes….

A native of the Philadelphia suburbs, my professional journey began when I joined the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves, before graduating high school, in 2006.

Since well before that transformative experience, I’ve benefited from the guidance of some remarkable people.

I’ve called them by a lot of names: family, friend, leader, boss, mentor, pastor, confidant – the list goes on. These are people who graciously invested their own precious time and energy steering me closer to my optimal life.

Despite all this support, it took me a long time to see the forest for the trees. A watershed moment came in 2019 when I invested in a few sessions with an executive coach. Among many productive breakthroughs, my coach helped me realize it was rarely advice I was taking. The most significant turning points in my life usually came about because of someone asking me the right questions. They pushed me to dig out my own solutions. In those moments, whether they knew it or not, someone had been coaching me.

Amazing coaches have helped me my entire life, and continue to do so today. My mission here is to pay it forward.

I do my best to apply those pillars I mentioned before to my personal life as well – as a husband to an amazing wife and mother, and “da-da” to one (so far…) beautiful baby girl. We live in the Philadelphia, PA suburbs with our goofy, lovable, rescue-pup, Lincoln.

When not working or changing diapers, you can find me reading, exercising, training Brazilian jiu-jitsu, fishing, hiking, hacking away at the golf course, or otherwise enjoying the great outdoors with my family. My love for all things outside came from a lifelong hobby of hitting the high seas with my dad (a pastor and professor who instilled in me many of my values) and brother for some offshore fishing—a passion that helped inspire the Lodestar name.
